About This Kitchen
Most kitchens that get called “modern traditional” really mean white Shaker with brass pulls. This West Chester kitchen earns the label honestly — stained walnut cabinets carry the traditional vocabulary, and the modern functionality is built into the interior of the cabinets where you wouldn’t see it from the doorway.
The backsplash is the room’s design move. A 3D pyramid-cut marble mosaic tile in white and cream — a sculpted relief tile that catches light differently depending on time of day. We only ran it on the range wall. Subway everywhere else would have been too quiet; this same tile on every wall would have been too loud.
The cabinetry interiors carry the real upgrade. A magic-corner blind-corner cabinet — the swing-and-pivot wire shelving system that actually uses the dead zone behind the corner. A docking drawer with built-in USB outlets so phones and tablets charge inside the drawer instead of on the counter. Both are details a homeowner notices six months in, not on the day of the final walk-through.
What we tell our clients about the magic corner: it’s worth the upcharge every single time. The blind corner in a standard L-shaped kitchen is the most wasted square footage in the room. The magic-corner mechanism is the only way to actually reach what you put back there.
