About This Kitchen

Eclectic kitchens fail when the eclectic parts shout over each other. This West Chester kitchen earns the label because the bones are quiet — white recessed-panel frameless cabinets, a tight U-shape with one rectangular island, polished nickel hardware — and the eclectic moves are all concentrated on one wall and over the island.

The range wall reads like a piece of artwork. A framed arabesque marble mosaic centerpiece sits inside a frame of dark glass mosaic, with a custom painted cabinet-style hood and an arched corbel detail above it. The field tile around the centerpiece is a light grey iridescent handmade subway with a dark glass-mosaic accent stripe at the base. None of it is a stock tile-and-grout install. Every piece had to be drawn on the wall before the order went out.

Quartzite counters — heavily veined grey, cream, and brown — run continuously across the perimeter and the dark-stained island. The two silver and chrome globe pendants with metal banding are the second statement — opinionated by design, the kind of fixture that personalizes a kitchen instead of letting it spec out as a catalog page. The mustard soffit accent above the cabinets is small and on purpose.

What we tell clients who want “eclectic”: pick two design moments and make them right, not five and make them medium. This kitchen has the mosaic feature wall and the pendants. Everything else stays quiet so those two carry the room.
